Source: Tesla Owner's Manual, Instructions for Transporters. ALL 4 TIRES OFF THE GROUND Motors make power when wheels turn. Never let any tire spin during transport: it can cause major damage, overheating, or fire. Improper transport damage is not covered by Tesla's warranty. APPROVED METHODS 1. Flatbed (recommended). Either direction. 2. Wheel lift + dollies only if no flatbed. All 4 wheels off the ground, max 35 miles (55 km), within dolly speed rating. Tesla recommends front wheels on the lift, rear on dollies. Front wheels on dollies: not recommended. Only with an external steering yoke or wheel lock and front wheels kept from spinning. HIGH VOLTAGE After a collision, treat high voltage parts as energized. Use PPE until responders confirm the system is de-energized. JACK MODE (AIR SUSPENSION) Air suspension self-levels with power off. 1. Touch Controls. 2. Press brake, touch Very High. 3. Touch Controls > Service > Jack Mode. Cancels above 4 mph. TOW MODE (BEFORE WINCHING) Needs: unplugged from charger, key detected, parking brake on, brake pedal held, low voltage power. 1. Shift to Park and chock the tires. 2. Hold brake, touch Controls > Service > Towing. 3. Touch Enter Tow Mode (button turns blue). Move at walking speed only (under 5 mph), under 30 ft. Cancel: Exit Tow Mode or shift to Park. Key needed to restart. No touchscreen or Tow Mode: load with self-loading dollies or tire skates (check ratings). WINCH WITH FRONT TOW EYE (PREFERRED) Use the tow eye whenever available. Never winch from the frame. 1. Tow eye is in the front trunk. 2. Release cover snaps with a small flat screwdriver in the top and bottom slots. Front cover is tied to the negative terminal; handle gently. 3. Thread tow eye in, turn counter-clockwise until tight. 4. Attach winch. Confirm tow eye is tight. 5. Activate Tow Mode, winch slowly. No rear tow eye. If you must pull from the rear, winch from the tow hitch in Tow Mode. NO TOW EYE (LAST RESORT) 1. Strap only to the front lower suspension arms. Wood between strap and underbody. 2. Activate Tow Mode, winch slowly. Afterward, suspension fasteners must be torque checked and inspected before driving. Tell the shop. SECURE Eight-point tie-down on tires only. Keep metal hardware off paint and wheel faces. No straps over body panels, through wheels, or on chassis or suspension. NO LOW VOLTAGE POWER 1. Open hood using Tesla's no power procedure. 2. Jump start low voltage battery, then set Jack Mode and Tow Mode.
